You may notice something new the next time you come by. We’re in the process of installing a new sign to help increase visibility from the highway, making it easier for people to locate and navigate to our facility. In addition, this sign will also feature an LED reader board.
Of course, having the sign is one thing, but getting it in place was a process in itself! The sign was fabricated off site, then painted and transported on a flatbed trailer to our office. Once it was here, the only way to lift it was by crane, so we hired All-Out to come and lift the sign from the trailer to mount on the concrete pad we had prepared for it.
Once the sign was off the trailer, it was carefully maneuvered into place and set on the mounting plates that had been installed a few days prior. The plates were set first because aligning a plate without the weight of the sign on it is a much easier process, especially if any small adjustments need to be made to line up the holes in the plate with the mounting bolts.
Once the sign was placed over the mounting plates, lining it up for final placement and making sure it was level was the next step. Making minor adjustments to ensure the sign was standing straight is essential, so it was checked multiple times throughout the process to be sure that it was perfectly upright.
Once the sign was properly set up and aligned with the mounting plate, the process of welding began. Russ is an expert welder in addition to fabricating our sign post, and he took the time to set up a series of heavy welds to ensure maximum strength and that the sign and mounting plate were permanently fused together.
As the welding continued, the level was checked several times to make sure that the sign remained perfectly upright. Once this was ensured, the mounting bolts were tightened into place to lock down the plates in their final fitment.
And as the sun sets, our new sign post is in place. Once the installers are scheduled, the sign faces and LED reader boards will be installed. More on those to come soon!
